ABOUT JENNY
Meet Jenny
My passion for photography was sparked in 1980 when I was given my first SLR camera as a graduation present. Over the years I have developed my skill in photography, first with film and now with digital.
Over the last 30 years I have won awards for my photographs and in 2002 I became an Associate of the Photographic Society of South Africa (APSSA). I had to submit 18 colour prints to the Photographic Society of South Africa and these were judged nationally and then I was awarded my Honours in Photography. In 2013 I was awarded the life-time achievement medal by the Cape Town Photographic Society.
I hope you enjoy looking through my website and that my images speak to you as much as they do to me.
my style
The Photography
My favourite genres are landscapes, seascapes and macro. My style has changed over the years, from pretty chocolate box photography to fine art photography.
I make images that capture my emotions and feelings rather than an accurate depiction of details in the viewfinder. I use a style known as Impressionism. This style in painting originated in France in the 1860’s. I use long exposures as a means to express a mood of serenity and tranquillity where there is so much chaos around us. I try to isolate something from the world around me to create a restful, peaceful scene.
I look to the sea and natural areas like forests where I find peace for my soul, a calmness of spirit expressed in my fine art Photography.
where my heart and soul belong
Infanta
Nestled in the tranquil village of Infanta, a gem 84km from Swellendam in the picturesque Overberg region of Western Cape, lies my sanctuary. Named after Cape Infanta, which honors Captain Joao Infante of Bartholomew Dias’s caravel, this place has become my haven since 2020 when I made our holiday house my permanent retreat.
Here, amidst the serene landscapes and the gentle embrace of nature, I find true peace and solace. Infanta is not just a place on the map; it’s where my heart resides. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Breede River just a stone’s throw away and the majestic sea nearby, I am constantly inspired to capture their essence through my photography.
Beyond the lens, Infanta allows me to connect deeply with my surroundings, enabling me to express my innermost emotions through visual storytelling. It’s more than a home; it’s a canvas where every frame tells a story of tranquility, beauty, and the harmony I’ve found in this serene corner of the world.
